Why Lie?

This s my first entry to the April's Theme challenge held by heavenriver which you can find here Ultra Fractal monthly Challenges Redux ~ Vol. 51.

April's Theme challenge will be the Question Mark challenge!
This month's theme is questions. Whether simple ones (e.g. "What should I make for dinner today?"), or deeper issues concerning individuals ("Who am I?") and/or humanity in its whole... and those are just some of the examples! Your fractals should convey the feeling of asking a question - to yourself, to someone specific, to your watchers, whomever you want. No restrictions otherwise.

I have been wondering lately why do people lie, when it would be easier to tell the truth.  I can think of a couple instances this past weekend when either I caught someone lying, or we were talking about someone that did nothing but lie.  We are lied to by the media, our governments, loved ones, co-workers, and the list goes on.  I sort of understand the lying to cover your ass. 

A funny thing happened this weekend, someone actually got sort of upset that I told the truth, well not the truth so much, but took the blame for something that went wrong.  It was not my fault, but I knew better than listening to those that had told me to wait.  And even though I did say it was my fault, the patient told me it wasn't.  I sometimes think that the lack of good communication can really destroy trust and relationships.

We also were sharing memories of a friend/co-worker we knew and the main thing each of us said was we thought she was a total fake.  She told these amazing stories,from what her husband did, to her very sick kid, and huge house she and her husband built.  Why would she lie or exaggerate?
